By day, you are just another confusion of
flesh and blindness,
pulled from the crowd staring at
the sun. Dust of the sun in your
eyes, wandering into the forest.
Swept off the path under the blue transom
of sky. Unfed, crying. Suffocated by light.
By night, you are, of course, omnipotent.
Influencing the movement of continents.
Smoking in the labyrinth.
Whispering in the ear of the everlasting.
Lighting the candle with the missing wick,
though you are silent, graven, inert,
but that is the price of omnipotence.
