The City and the Devil
2025, Acrylic on canvas board, 16″ x 12″
Must be the lord of light
Who made the city
Who made the city heaven
And pressed its breath on
Every window climbing
Golden apples
Winking tower
Lucidity after a night of drink
Cracking panes of morning
Buttons missed along with the bus
An unaccounted Uber
Bared teeth tyranny of the traffic signal
But not till tomorrow.
Under the night lavender and peach immortal
They serve the souls
Flaring, unguarded, dispensable.
